Dad worked as a fitter at Wearmouth all his life...his first job as an apprentice was the building of the D pit tower..when the pit was demolished the D pit tower was the last to go...I took him down to watch as it was blown down and could see the emotion in his face...he retired early..a consequence of the last pit strike..he could not stand that miner was against miner and it was his time to go....
